Issa Statement on Speaker Pelosi Putting a Liberal Wish List Ahead of Real COVID Relief

February 3, 2021

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50) released the following statement in response to Speaker Pelosi and the House advancing Budget Reconciliation:

“An overwhelming consensus in Congress could pass targeted and meaningful COVID relief TODAY without using partisan budget tricks. But my colleagues across the aisle must not want that. They are instead advancing a liberal wish list they call COVID relief, which Democrats have suggested should be filled with mass amnesty, tax increases, D.C. statehood, and mandatory wage hikes on businesses that are hurting. Not only is this effort largely unconnected to real COVID relief, it will snuff out the economic recovery we need to happen as soon as possible.”

Issa continued, “This is insulting to communities suffocating from punitive government shutdowns and bureaucratically tangled vaccine rollouts. The American people need relief from government incompetence and our focus should be on supporting swift COVID recovery.”
