Congressman Issa Criticizes Biden-Created Kabul Crisis

August 13, 2021

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Darrell Issa released the following statement, calling on President Joe Biden to return from vacation and confront the escalating crisis in Afghanistan:

“Let me be clear: America was always supposed to depart Afghanistan – but on America’s terms. The urgent humanitarian and international crisis created by the chaotic national breakdown set in motion by the Biden Administration is simply intolerable.

“A negotiated agreement has been broken. The Taliban are taking Afghanistan by force and have recaptured nearly 60 percent of the country. In a scene reminiscent of previous foreign policy failures like Saigon in 1975 and Iran in 1979, our embassy in Kabul is expediting destruction of materials in anticipation of a full Taliban takeover.

“Our departure from Afghanistan did not have to descend into this: A forced flight, the need for emergency Marine reinforcements and panicked calls for international aid. The extent of the Biden Administration’s foreign policy naïveté hasn’t been seen in a White House since Jimmy Carter’s administration.

“President Biden has failed in his first obligation to the American people and America’s vital national interests.”
