Issa Conducts Border Tour for Regional Mayors

December 21, 2023

Following a comprehensive tour of the San Diego region’s southern border yesterday alongside mayors and other local leaders representing San Diego and Riverside Counties, Congressman Issa (CA-48) released this statement:

"I convened a tour of our southern border for the mayors of our region because it is vital that everyone at all levels of government realize what is happening there.

"On his very first day in office, Joe Biden opened the nation’s borders and sent a message to the world that America’s immigration laws were essentially null and void. As a result, an estimated seven million illegals have crossed into our country, unprecedented child and human trafficking has occurred, and America is suffering the deadliest drug crisis in our history.

“Biden has also betrayed our border agents by not letting them do their jobs, denying them the tools they need, and even falsely accusing them of wrongdoing. We have so many outstanding men and women in the Border Patrol, but Biden doesn’t want them to stand guard and keep out those who would violate our laws. He wants them to be Uber drivers for illegal immigrants, taking them where they want to go.

"This Congress is now rising to the occasion, and Republicans are working together to hire new Border Patrol agents, enhance border enforcement technology, continue construction on border infrastructure, set our asylum laws right, and end the Biden policy of catch and release.

"My thanks to Mayor DeForest, Mayor White, Mayor Schwank, and Mayor Wells for joining me on this visit and asking the right questions. This is a fight we must win."
