Issa Hosts Judiciary Committee Field Hearing Examining Biden-Harris Border Crisis
SANTEE – Today, Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) hosted the House Judiciary Committee for a field hearing in Santee, CA, examining the impact of the Biden-Harris Administration’s failed border policies on California communities.
The hearing, "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: California Perspectives," featured local Southern California leaders on the front lines of this crisis. These witnesses detailed the surge in drug trafficking, public safety threats, and the strain on local resources caused by the administration's open border policies, which have allowed millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country.
“From day one, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris opened our borders, invited millions of illegal immigrants to walk through them, and ensured they would not have to leave — even if they committed serious crimes. This has led to an unprecedented surge of illegal immigrant crime, drugs, and trafficking — and our community knows that enough is enough. I want to thank the committee for coming to San Diego to witness the severity of this crisis firsthand,” said Rep. Issa.
The hearing also highlighted Issa’s new bill, the Sanctuary City Accountability Act which will hold sanctuary cities accountable for crimes committed by illegal immigrants they harbored and released into communities.
Issa was joined by Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05) and Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) on the dais at the hearing.
Witnesses included:
- Michael Hestrin, District Attorney, Riverside County, California
- John Franklin, Mayor, Vista, California
- Cory Gautereaux, Border Security Advocate and Small Business Owner
- Don Sharp, Undersheriff, Riverside County, California
- John Minto, Mayor, Santee, California
