Issa: Investigate Delayed Emergency Response to ICE Agents Under Attack
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48), Senior Member of the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman of its Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Artificial Intelligence, and the Courts, has called for a “full and complete Congressional investigation” after public reports that the Los Angeles Police Department took more than two hours to respond after thousands of rioters assaulted federal law enforcement officials as they enforced clear immigration law.
“We need to know if the political leadership of the City of Los Angeles, the State of California, or anyone else instructed the LAPD to stand down and not respond to the emergency requests of our ICE agents who were under attack by rioters determined to block them, burn them, or even kill them as they bravely carried out their sworn duties,” said Rep. Issa.
Beginning on June 6, 2025, federal law enforcement officials in Los Angeles began arresting criminal illegal aliens including gang members, drug traffickers and those with a history of assault, cruelty to children, domestic violence, robbery, and human smuggling. In response to this due process and enforcement of clear federal immigration law, hundreds and then thousands of individuals used rocks, concrete, bottles, Molotov cocktails, fireworks and other deadly projectiles that injured ICE officers and other members of law enforcement, as well as blocked freeways, threatened innocent civilians, and set fire to public areas and private property.
On June 7, the Department of Homeland Security issued the following statement: “Last night, more than 1,000 rioters surrounded a federal law enforcement building and assaulted ICE law enforcement officers, slashed tires, defaced buildings, and taxpayer funded property. It took the Los Angeles Police Department 2 hours to respond.”
“Enough is enough. Congress can’t look away as our cities burn, our federal agents are assaulted, and the laws of our country go unenforced,” said Rep. Issa.
