New Issa Legislation Cracks Down on Sanctuary Cities and Criminal Illegals

March 20, 2025

WASHINGTON— This week, Congressman Darrell Issa, along with House colleagues Congressman Brandon Gill (TX-26), Congressman Eli Crane (AZ-02), Congressman Lance Gooden (TX-05), Congressman Mike Haridopolos (FL-08), and Congressman Randy Feenstra (IA-04), reintroduced the Sanctuary City Accountability Act (SCAA), which will empower citizens harmed by sanctuary cities to hold them accountable for crimes committed by illegal immigrants shielded from law enforcement and released into communities. The bill gives victims and their immediate family members the right to sue sanctuary jurisdictions.

“For years, sanctuary cities have openly defied federal law and endangered the American people by not only shielding illegals from the consequences of their crimes, but also ensuring they are allowed to remain free to victimize even more innocent Americans,” said Rep. Issa. “It’s time to reset our system and put the law on the side of American citizens, not criminal illegals.

Congressman Issa also introduced the Clear Law Enforcement for Criminal Alien Removal (CLEAR) Act , a companion bill to Senator Marsha Blackburn’s (TN) legislation to allow local law enforcement agencies to more effectively combat illegal immigration

The CLEAR Act will:

  • Grant local police officers the authority to arrest, detain, and transfer illegal immigrants out of the United States
  • Mandate the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) share its list of illegal immigrants with deportation orders, visa overstays, and revoked visas with local police departments nationwide
  • Require states and localities to report instances of illegal immigration to the federal government
  • Provide federal reimbursement to local law enforcement agencies for their work in immigration enforcement, ensuring that the burden on local taxpayers is minimized.
