Statement by Congressman Issa on Biden Nominee to Patent and Trade Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-50), Ranking Member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual property & the Internet, released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Kathi Vidal as Undersecretary for Intellectual Property & Director of the U.S. Patent & Trade Office:
 
“The PTO Director must work to improve patent quality and stop the misuse that currently takes place in the system. I hope Ms. Vidal will commit to administering the PTO in a manner consistent with the intent of Congress, including safeguarding the integrity of the PTAB process as envisioned in the America Invents Act. I look forward to working with her to ensure the U.S. patent system protects the intellectual property rights of entrepreneurs and maintains America’s position at the forefront of innovation and creativity.”

Darrell Issa is the Representative of California’s 50th Congressional District. The District encompasses the central and northeastern parts of San Diego County and a portion of Riverside County, including the communities of Fallbrook, San Marcos, Valley Center, Ramona, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, El Cajon, Temecula, and the mountain and desert areas of the San Diego-Imperial County line. Issa served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2011-2015.
