Firefighters play a critical role in mitigating and responding to the persistent threat of fires that occur at our homes, businesses, across landscapes, and other locations in our communities. In 2021, there were an estimated 1.35 million fires responded to by local fire departments in the United States. These fires caused 3,800 civilian deaths and an estimated $15.9 billion in property damage.
Washington – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) released the following statement after passage of the Unlocking Our Domestic Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Potential Act of 2024. The legislation was passed by a bipartisan vote of 224-200.
In the most recent hearing of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) repeatedly questioned Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on her department’s targeting of the most basic home appliances, which will render them more expensive and less available to Americans in every part of this country.
Following Granholm’s assurance that the DOE’s proposed rules merely “raise efficiency standards” and don’t eliminate any products, Rep. Issa stated:

Washington, DC – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) yesterday testified before the House Natural Resources Committee, urging the committee to adopt his recently reintroduced legislation to speed the hiring of essential firefighting roles at federal agencies including the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and National Park Service.
Washington, DC - Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) has cosponsored legislation introduced by California colleague Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) to improve aerial wildfire fighting capabilities. Under the "Emergency Wildfire Fighting Technology Act" the newest aerial firefighting capabilities will be evaluated by the federal government and can be put into use to enhance rapid surge capabilities.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) joined Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse (WA-04) and 30 Members of the Caucus in support of new legislation expressing the sense of Congress that an “all of the above” energy plan is the most viable approach to American energy independence.
Washington, DC - Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) is an original cosponsor of Speaker Kevin McCarthy's Save Our Sequoias (SOS) Act. This legislation would improve forest management practices at the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service to expedite fire protection measures in California lands where Giant Sequoias grow.
Giant Sequoias are the largest trees on Earth and solely found in roughly 70 groves across 37,000 acres in California. Action is needed to further protect these iconic trees against the threat of wildfire.
